The role
As such, we are looking for a Lead Concept CAD Engineer to help us grow a cutting edge and innovative product range whilst lifting the quality of the Designs to new highs.
The role of Lead Concept CAD Engineer will be to support the Concept Engineering and Design team by creating aesthetically optimised CAD models that ensure the integrity of the unique Norton Design language is developed in line with the concept engineering. As a Design led company this function is pivotal to the success of Norton. A hands-on approach and can-do attitude are essential, as is the ability to challenge mainstream thinking in a constructive and energetic way.
Norton are looking to integrate Design & Engineering in a way not seen within the motorcycle industry, using cutting edge technologies and visualisation techniques. Digitally sculpting concept level models from beginning, developing the Design surfaces all the way through to release. Working closely with Design and Engineering in a multi-disciplined office is the only way to achieve this.
Duties/Responsibilities
- To generate production-feasible, optimised CAD models using PTC Creo.
- Creating complex yet high quality CAD models and assemblies to assess feasibility of design direction.
- Interpret 3D Design models and 2D sketches and translate them into CAD models that faithfully capture Design intent.
- Collaborate with Engineers and Designers to integrate Engineering constraints, whilst maintaining Design requirements.
- Suggest creative solutions to Design and Engineering challenges.
- Successfully communicating and working with key internal departments and suppliers to ensure quality design and feasibility.
- Ensuring application of relevant industry standards and benchmarking of competitor components.
- Presenting concepts in reviews with engineering and design management
- Attending and inputting into the engineering reviews and discussions.
- Actively tracking and recording design and engineering decisions to clarify justification.
- Managing a small number of CAD Designers.
- Sharing and communication of technical knowledge including creating and maintaining department procedures.

Personal Specification
- An interest and understanding of fundamental motorcycle principles.
- Minimum of 5 year’s experience in automotive/motorcycle design engineering background.
- Expert User of PTC Creo or similar CAD software.
- Experience in managing workload of team members across multiple projects.
- Understand engineering fundamentals in the design and development of components and assemblies, including:
- Appropriate material and manufacturing process selection.
- Design for assembly.
- Design for manufacture.
- Excellent attention to detail and the desire to work to the highest standards.
- Good communication and presentation skills.
- Able to take instruction and work under pressure.
