The role
Working as the Head of Operations, you will be responsible for a multi functional team covering Warehousing, Fabrication, Assembly and Production Engineering. You will be joining a business which is about to embark upon the “Fly” stage of its business plan and there is large focus on the readiness to launch a new model into production and manage significant change in volume output to meet the global demand.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Develop and implement manufacturing strategies aligned with company goals
- Manage and supervise the Operations team to achieve production targets
- Optimise production processes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations
- Lead efforts in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing practices
- Department Management: Oversee the management of the Production, Manufacturing & Stores departments, ensuring operational plans are executed effectively and efficiently.
- KPI Monitoring: Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for each operational area, utilising dashboards and reporting tools to track performance and identify trends.
- Develop and deliver the site’s Annual Operating budget
- Liaison Role: Serve as the primary liaison between the COO, operational management teams, and key cross-functional facilitating effective communication and collaboration on strategic initiatives.
- Mentorship and Coaching: Provide mentorship and coaching to departmental leaders, fostering a culture of leadership development and accountability.
- Performance Management: Implement performance management systems to evaluate employee performance, drive engagement, and promote professional growth.
Personal Specification:
Key characteristics:
- Must have some experience of mechanical precision component manufacturing (any regulated industry is fine – aero, automotive, rail, oil & gas, nuclear etc.)
- You could be a Manufacturing Manager or Operations Manager looking to make the next step in your career, Alternatively you could be a more experienced Production Director, Manufacturing Director or Operations Director or possibly a Plant Manager
- Data driven & good with IT. The Exec team are very IT driven and analytical; utilising IT systems to make things efficient and accurate is important
- Collaborative – the business and people are friendly and committed. You will be a Manufacturing Director who engages in a nice way to lead the team (you will likely be a really good coach and lead in a collaborative manner)
- Strategic but then we want to see examples of taking ownership and driving performance not just reporting. An ability to ‘cut through noise to key points and focus on execution
Candidate Experience:
- Strong operational background within an engineering, automotive or fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Warehousing and Maintenance operations advantageous
- Strong leadership skills and ability to inspire and develop teams
- Commercial acumen would be an advantage
- Excellent communication and organisational abilities
- Exceptional ability to influence and drive change across cross-functional teams.
- An innovative mindset to identify and implement growth opportunities
- Proven experience in a senior manufacturing role
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and quality control
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
