The Role
We are seeking a highly capable and commercially minded Senior Legal Counsel to join our growing in-house legal team at Norton. This is a key global role supporting the Head of Legal across all areas of the business.
You will be central to shaping the company’s legal strategy, providing pragmatic advice to senior leadership, and ensuring the effective management of legal risk across manufacturing, distribution, product development, and brand operations in multiple markets.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial and Corporate
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including supplier agreements, distribution and dealership agreements, technology and IP licences, and strategic partnerships
Support on corporate governance matters, company secretarial issues, and subsidiary management
Develop and maintain contract management, template documentation, and risk registers
Advise on M&A, joint ventures, and strategic collaborations where appropriate
Disputes & Risk Management
Assist with contentious matters, including product liability, warranty claims, and commercial disputes, working with External Counsel as appropriate
Take an active role in supporting the business develop processes for the handling of customer complaints, ensuring that legal risk is managed at an appropriate level
Product, Regulatory & Consumer
Advise on compliance with EU and UK regulations including environmental, advertising and consumer protection regulations (including Data Protection)
Support product development teams in assessing regulatory and liability risk with emerging technology
Legal Training & Compliance
Take an active role in the creation of training assets for the business on a broad range of legal topics
Assist with the roll-out of compliance programmes, including anti-bribery, competition law, export controls, and data protection (with support from SMEs)
Strategic Support
Provide clear, business-focused legal advice to senior management and project teams
Contribute to the legal department’s continuous improvement, process automation, and knowledge management
Support the Head of Legal in budgeting, reporting, and external counsel management
Deputy Responsibilities
Where called upon, act as Deputy Head of Legal, managing the legal function in the absence of the Head of Legal
Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to other members of the legal team
Represent the Legal Department at internal and external meetings, including Board and Executive sessions when required
About You
Essential
Qualified solicitor (England & Wales, or equivalent) with at least 7+ years’ PQE, ideally including significant in-house experience
Strong track record in commercial contracts, corporate law, and regulatory compliance
Demonstrated ability to operate as a trusted business partner, balancing legal risk with commercial realities
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
High level of initiative, resilience, and sound judgment
Desirable
Experience in the Automotive, Motorcycle, or Manufacturing sectors
Familiarity with EU/UK product safety, competition law, and consumer legislation
Prior experience managing a small legal team or acting as Deputy Counsel
Multijurisdictional exposure (EU, UK, US, or Asia)
