The Role
Norton Motorcycles is seeking a proactive, detail-driven, and highly organised Junior Material Planner to join our Supply Chain team on a 6-month contract.
Working within a fast-paced motorcycle manufacturing environment, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring materials and components required for production are available on time, in full, and at optimal stock levels.
The role is primarily focused on material planning, with additional responsibilities supporting procurement activities and supplier coordination. You will collaborate closely with production, quality, logistics, and supplier teams to maintain supply continuity, support engineering changes, and ensure the smooth operation of manufacturing processes for current motorcycle models.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor the production schedule against material availability to prevent shortages or production line stoppages
Conduct daily and weekly part coverage reviews with the global supplier base, implementing corrective actions where required
Maintain appropriate stock levels in line with production forecasts, build plans, and agreed inventory targets
Support engineering changes by coordinating with internal teams and suppliers to ensure materials are available when required
Maintain, update, and validate supplier data and planning parameters within MRP and SAP systems (lead times, minimum order quantities, safety stock, etc.)
Utilise SAP reports to analyse material requirements, identify discrepancies, and implement corrective actions
Monitor planning data accuracy to ensure reliable supply chain operations
Work closely with suppliers to ensure material delivery schedules align with production requirements
Organise and monitor inbound logistics for production components, subcontracted parts, and aftersales materials
Support supplier communication regarding delivery schedules, shortages, and supply risks
Assist the Quality team with the management of rejected parts, ensuring timely supplier resolution and replacement
Perform stock takes and reconciliation at vendor locations and investigate discrepancies
Ensure closure of supplier invoices and proforma invoices in line with agreed payment terms
Skills & Experience
Essential
Hands-on experience using SAP and MRP planning systems
Experience working within an Automotive, Manufacturing, or Engineering environment
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production setting
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with internal departments and external suppliers
Basic understanding of procurement processes, purchasing terminology, and supplier management
Previous experience in a material planning, scheduling, or supply chain coordination role
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and Bill of Materials (BOM) structures
Experience coordinating logistics or managing inbound freight
Qualifications
Engineering qualification or equivalent relevant experience preferred
