The Role
As a Colour, Material, and Finish (‘CMF”) Junior Designer at Norton, you will be in charge of contributing to the CMF strategies and projects to establish a design strategy to add emotional and functional values to the product, implementing and optimising materials, colours, and details.
Working within the Design team, side by side with Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing and Marketing to develop a CMF strategy for our long-term future.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Research consumer lifestyle and product design trends, translating them into cohesive CMF strategies that strengthen our product branding strategy
- Ability to synthesise research findings and to uncover and articulate insights that will inform and inspire design
- Knowledge of material trends and forecasting innovative materials used in a variety of Hard and Soft applications
- Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes
- Develop materials from concept through to a master sample that is unique to Norton
- Work with material suppliers to develop both advanced material samples and standards for production
- Work alongside designers, engineers, suppliers and manufacturers to develop concepts and prototypes into material technologies suitable for manufacturing
- Exceptional visual, communication and storytelling skills. fluency and confidence in inspiring teammates
- Review and present colours, materials, and finishes at different stages of the development process.
Personal Specification
- Bachelor's Degree in an area of Art / Design
- 2-3 years of experience in a CMF design role
- Creativity skills and problem-solving aptitude
- Excellent visual and verbal communication skills
- A keen eye for detail
- Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and VRED
- Teamwork skills
- Time management and multitasking abilities
- Able to travel to events and suppliers both domestically and internationally.
- Open to learning to work with foreign manufacturing and supply partners to bring products to market
