The Role
Norton Motorcycles is looking for a driven and detail-oriented Industrial Engineer to join our world-class Production team. In this pivotal role, you will lead initiatives to enhance manufacturing efficiency, productivity, and quality through data-driven analysis, innovative problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration.
You will play a key role in shaping how our motorcycles are built — from streamlining material flows to optimising production layouts and introducing new products into our manufacturing lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed time studies to analyse production processes, identify inefficiencies, and implement strategies to optimise work methods and reduce cycle times.
- Perform Method Study and Work Measurement (MSE) activities to establish accurate standard times, ensuring alignment with production goals and efficiency targets.
- Analyse material flows through the production process, identifying bottlenecks, delays, and excess inventory; develop solutions to improve throughput and reduce waste.
- Lead layout optimisation projects to redesign facility layouts, improve product flow, minimise handling time, and enhance workspace utilisation.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to boost productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement productivity improvement measures, ensuring the smooth flow of materials, products, and information across production.
- Conduct root cause analysis of inefficiencies and apply corrective actions to reduce downtime and increase throughput.
- Monitor production performance metrics and present data-driven insights to management to support decision-making and performance enhancement.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support process consistency and quality standards.
- Design and implement ergonomic solutions to enhance operator safety, reduce fatigue, and improve overall efficiency.
- Support the development of process control systems to monitor and optimise production performance.
- Provide project management support for new product introductions, ensuring process improvements are embedded in new production lines from the outset.
- Assist in the analysis and design of new product and process flows to ensure cost-effective, scalable, and efficient operations.
- Evaluate equipment and tooling effectiveness, recommending upgrades or modifications to improve operational performance.
Key Skills & Experience
- Degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Production Engineering (desirable but not essential)
- Relevant experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or automotive environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive data-led decision making
- Proactive, adaptable, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to engage effectively across all levels of the organisation
