The Role
Norton Motorcycles is seeking a proactive and experienced Stores Team Leader to join our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Shirley. This role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the stores function, ensuring the efficient receipt, storage, control, and distribution of materials and components required for motorcycle production.
You will play a key role in driving operational performance, ensuring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved, and maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and stock accuracy while supporting production requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise, lead, and motivate the stores team to achieve operational objectives
Allocate daily tasks and manage workloads to meet production demands
Conduct team briefings, shift handovers, and operational updates
Monitor attendance, timekeeping, and conduct in line with company policies
Carry out performance management activities including objective setting, reviews, and development discussions
Identify training needs and support ongoing team development
Foster a positive, accountable, and high-performance team culture
Oversee goods-in, storage, stock control, picking, kitting, and production line supply
Ensure accurate receipt, checking, and booking of materials into ERP/MRP systems
Maintain accurate stock records and inventory control procedures
Ensure safe, logical storage of materials to support efficient handling and retrieval
Manage stock rotation processes (e.g. FIFO)
Coordinate with production and planning teams to ensure material availability
Monitor and manage departmental KPIs, including; stock accuracy; picking accuracy; on-time delivery to production; inventory discrepancies; goods-in processing times; productivity levels
Set clear performance targets aligned with operational goals
Track performance and implement corrective actions where necessary
Prepare and present KPI reports to management
Ensure compliance with productivity and quality standards
Identify and implement improvements to stores processes and workflow efficiency
Support lean manufacturing initiatives, including 5S and waste reduction
Participate in supply chain and operational improvement projects
Encourage team involvement in continuous improvement activities
Ensure all activities comply with Health & Safety policies and procedures
Maintain high housekeeping standards within the stores environment
Enforce operational procedures and performance expectations
Escalate issues impacting production or supply chain continuity
Recommend process and operational improvements
Skills & Competencies
Strong leadership and team motivation skills
Experience in performance management and coaching
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Ability to manage conflict and support team development
Solid understanding of warehouse/stores operations
Knowledge of inventory control and stock management systems
Experience using ERP/MRP systems
Strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills
Effective decision-making capability
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
ILM Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Leadership and Management (or willingness to work towards)
Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role within a warehouse, stores, or manufacturing environment
Experience managing KPIs and team performance
Knowledge of inventory control processes and stock management systems
Desirable
Experience within automotive or manufacturing industries
Forklift Truck Licence (FLT)
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or 5S principles
