The role
In this role, you will lead the design and development of our global merchandise and riding gear portfolio — fusing functionality, performance, and authentic brand expression. You’ll work closely with product designers, external suppliers, licensing partners, and cross-functional teams to bring compelling collections to market. These products are designed for riders as well as for our broader community of brand fans deepening the connection between them and the spirit of Norton.
Reporting to the Global Director of Alt Revenue, this is a highly creative and commercially minded role, critical to expanding both customer loyalty and alternative revenue streams.
Duties/Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
- Lead the end-to-end design and development process for branded merchandise and technical riding gear — from concept sketches through to production.
- Issue detailed technical packages (tech packs) for all products to ensure seamless communication with suppliers and manufacturers.
- Ensure product designs reflect brand identity, meet performance expectations, and satisfy customer lifestyle needs.
- Partner with external designers and suppliers to bring high-quality, on-brand products to market.
- Conduct trend research, customer feedback reviews, and competitive benchmarking to inform design direction.
- Under the direction of the Global Director of Alt-Revenue, work alongside the Alt-Rev merchandiser to define seasonal and long-term product roadmaps for merchandise and gear categories.
- Ensure the delivery of product collections is aligned to key brand moments, launches, and regional market needs.
- Oversee all sampling, fit approval, and product testing to ensure the highest levels of quality, safety, and durability, especially for riding gear.
- Establish strong relationships with global vendors, material suppliers, and manufacturing partners.
- Support supplier selection and onboarding processes to ensure ethical sourcing, quality standards, and lead time commitments.
- Work with licensing and legal teams to manage branding guidelines and IP protection on all third-party manufactured products.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with marketing, retail, aftersales, and eCommerce teams to align product development with commercial and promotional strategies.
- Collaborate with brand and design teams to ensure all merchandise and apparel items reflect the company's visual identity and customer values.
- Work closely with inventory planning and logistics teams to ensure smooth product launches and replenishment cycles.
Personal Specification
- 10+ years of experience in apparel, merchandise, or technical gear design & development, ideally in the automotive, motorcycle, sportswear, or lifestyle sectors.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating creative and commercially successful product development.
- Deep knowledge of materials, fit, construction, and performance standards for both apparel and technical gear.
- Experience working directly with global suppliers and overseeing production from concept to delivery.
- Highly collaborative — able to balance creativity, technical requirements, and business goals.
- Strong understanding of customer lifestyle trends, especially within premium automotive or motorcycle communities.
- Detail-oriented and organised, with a proven ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously.
