The Role
As Assembly Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading a team of assembly technicians to ensure motorcycles are built to the highest quality standards, delivered on time, and in line with Norton Motorcycles’ production targets and safety protocols. This role involves coordinating daily operations on the assembly line, driving continuous improvement, and fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Coordination
- Lead, motivate, and support a team of assembly technicians to meet daily production targets
- Allocate tasks based on skill levels, production requirements, and shift planning
- Conduct daily briefings to communicate targets, safety messages, and updates.
- Act as the first point of contact for assembly team members regarding operational issues
Production & Quality
- Ensure that motorcycles are assembled to engineering specifications and quality standards
- Perform in-process checks and oversee adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Escalate technical or quality issues to the Quality or Engineering teams when necessary
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for recurring issues
Health & Safety
- Promote and enforce compliance with Norton’s health and safety policies and procedures
- Conduct safety checks, audits, and toolbox talks regularly
- Address and report any unsafe conditions or near-miss incidents immediately
Continuous Improvement
- Support the implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles and 5S standards on the assembly line
- Identify and suggest improvements in workflow, tooling, and processes to enhance efficiency
- Lead small improvement projects and support cross-functional initiatives
Training & Development
- Assist in onboarding and training new team members
- Monitor performance and provide feedback, mentoring, and support to team members
- Conduct skills assessments and identify training needs in conjunction with supervisors
Administration & Reporting
- Record daily output, quality concerns, and downtime incidents accurately
- Provide shift reports and updates to the Assembly Supervisor or Production Manager
- Ensure accurate completion of build documentation and traceability records
Personal Specification
- Proven experience in a team leader or senior technician role within an automotive or motorcycle manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of mechanical assembly processes, preferably motorcycle-specific
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and build instructions
- Good communication and leadership skills with the ability to coach and develop others
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and basic problem-solving tools
- Strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement
